ATLETICO DE MADRID: COACH ABEL SACKED & NEW COACH QUIQUE SANCHEZ FLORES

Persibo Daftarkan Dulu 22 Pemain

Ottawa coach slams New Jersey, advises Hooper

Fury coach Frank Lofranco: "Some people handle (losing) better than others. We can't really worry about how (New Jersey) handled it."
He also offered tactical advice to Charmaine Hooper: "It's more than karma or luck or fate that gets things done on the field."

SUZUKI: The disaster again?

Tuesday, 05 May 2009
I expected that Suzuki will make a big surprise for season 2009, they have made a big improvement in winter testing in Sepang-Malaysia. Everybody was waiting how they are going to be this season, and I was hoping they will be become front runners.

So far the results are disaster, Capirex seems not fast enough during the race, he struggles a lot, he complains about his tyre (durability), Vermeulen is the same, they can't got the most from the testing in Sepang an Philip Island.
I wonder what's wrong with the team, if the tyres are the main concern, then why it happens so suddenly? for Suzuki has been a loyal customer to Birdgestone for a long time. Rossi can adapt faster dan better on the Bridgestone, Pedrosa and Dovi are the same....

They need to work harder to make the chassis works better and friendlier to the tyres. Hello Hamamatsu... !

Ronaldo vows to score at Old Trafford

Christiano Ronaldo says he will score at Old Trafford after missing a penalty in the goalless draw against Barcelona at the Nou Camp. The Portuguese wizard went for the top right corner, but over-shot it. The United number seven, who's already scored something like 38 goals this season, usually aims left, either high or low, but says he tried nothing different this time.

United were uncharacteristically defensive against the Spanish giants in Wednesday night's UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg. Barcelona enjoyed a massive amount of possession in Manchester's half, but failed to score.

The draw is probably better for United, although they didn't get the precious away goal. Sir Alex Ferguson's side will however fancy their chances of winning at home next week.

Hamilton to pay in France

Lewis Hamilton will be penalised ten grid positions at the French Grand Prix later this month for his part in a crash with Kimi Raikkonen in Canada. Hamilton careered into the back of his championship rival's Ferrari as the Finn waited at the pit exit under a red light. Nico Rosberg will also be penalised ten grid positions at Magny-Cours after he ran into the back of Hamilton during the same incident. McLaren team boss Ron Dennis said afterwards "The collision that eliminated Lewis was just one of those things. No racing driver would deliberately take himself out of a grand prix, and the plain fact is that Lewis didn't realize that the cars in front of him were coming to halt until it was too late".

Joe Gets Second Bite at Bok Cherry

The big surprise in the Springbok starting lineup for Saturday's massive Tri-Nations clash with the All Blacks in Wellington is the inclusion of Joe van Niekerk at number eight.

The 2002 player of the year has been plagued by injuries over the past few years but a solid season with the under-performing Lions in the Super 14 saw him earn a call-up to the Bok squad for the opening three tests of the year. He got his chance against Italy two weeks ago and no doubt made an impression on Bok coach Peter de Villiers.

van Niekerk has been chosen above Pierre Spies and Ryan Kankowski. Spies didn't convince in the first two tests against Wales while Kankowski is no doubt still recovering from a serious knock to the head against Italy.

Odwa Ndungane is also a surprise inclusion on the right wing. While the Sharks winger had a decent debut against Italy, it was widely accepted that JP Pietersen will be entrusted with the number 14 jersey because of h! is Tri-Nations experience.

Springbok team to play the All Blacks:

15. Conrad JANTJES; 14. Odwa NDUNGANE; 13. Adrian JACOBS; 12. Jean de VILLIERS; 11. Bryan HABANA; 10. Butch JAMES; 9. Enrico JANUARIE; 8. Joe van NIEKERK; 7. Juan SMITH; 6. Schalk BURGER; 5. Victor MATFIELD; 4. Bakkies BOTHA; 3. CJ van der LINDE; 2. John SMIT (C); 1. Gurthro STEENKAMP

Replacements:

16. Bismarch du PLESSIS; 17. Brian MUJATI; 18. Andries BEKKER; 19. Luke WATSON; 20. Bolla CONRADIE; 21. Francois STEYN; 22. Percy MONTGOMERY

Elsom Returns for Wallabies

The return from injury of flanker Rocky Elsom, and the placement of Drew Mitchell at fullback and Sam Cordingley at halfback, highlight the Qantas Wallabies side named today for Saturday's Tri-Nations match against South Africa at Durban.

The trio represent three of the five personnel changes that have been made to the Australian combination from that which lost the second Bledisloe Cup Test in Auckland.

Elsom is back after a strained foot ligament prevented his participation in that loss three weeks ago.

His return comes a week earlier than was originally anticipated, but having satisfied the medical and coaching staff as to the level of his preparedness for the task ahead.

Lock James Horwill has also been cleared to play, after being dogged by a foot injury following the Auckland match. Mitchell and Cordingley take the places of the injured Adam Ashley-Cooper and Luke Burgess respectively.

The! other changes to the Australian starting XV from that which appeared most recently in the series; see Daniel Vickerman resume his starting position in the second-row, having come from the bench in his two Test outings of the season to date.

Tighthead prop Matt Dunning is also restored to the run on side for the first time since the opening international of the year against Ireland. He swaps places with Al Baxter, who drops to a place among the run on reserves.

The starting side features four changes from the combination which eclipsed South Africa 16-9 in the Wallabies' opening match of the 2008 Tri-Nations series.

Brett Sheehan is promoted to the match-day squad for the first time this year following Cordingley's elevation into the starting line-up, being joined by Timana Tahu and Ryan Cross among the back replacements.

Qantas Wallabies coach Robbie Deans is happy with his team's preparation through the week as it heads towards ! the Durban match.

"Training has gone well, and we'r! e lookin g forward to the opportunity we have in front of us," Deans says.

While the Wallabies' recent run of outs in South Africa has been repeatedly highlighted in the lead-up to the current team's visit, Deans is only interested in looking forward.

"It [the record] highlights the extent of the opportunity that we, as a team, have in front of us to achieve something significant, and that's exciting," Deans says.

"But as far as its relevance is concerned in the preparations for Saturday's game, it doesn't really have any. We're focusing totally on what is in front of us. The history – be it good or bad – isn't a factor once the game kicks off!"

The Qantas Wallabies have been based at sea level in Cape Town all week after arriving in South Africa last Friday night.

Preparations for the Test match will be wrapped up in Cape Town, where the captain's run will be held tomorrow morning, prior to transferring to the Kwa-Zulu Natal coa! st in the afternoon.

The Wallabies will wear black arm-bands during the match as a mark of respect for the former Australian representatives Roy Prosser and Malcolm van Gelder who both passed away just prior to the team's departure for South Africa.

The Qantas Wallabies team to play South Africa at the ABSA Stadium in Durban, on Saturday August 23 (3pm kick off, local), is:

15. Drew Mitchell (Western Force)

Nadal: The Greatest at the Moment

Rafa Nadal's intensity made him the better player in this year's Australian Open final against Roger Federer.

The first Spaniard to win the title at Melbourne was simply to passionate and fired up to be stopped.

Both players were in fine form and from the start the standard of tennis was a cut above the rest.

Nadal's semi against Verdasco was good, but somehow the anticipation was that the epic battle between the world's top two was going to be a little better and more engrossing…and it was.

Both players came out with clear game-plans. Nadal fired everything at Federer's backhand, while the Swiss tried to tire the Spaniard.

What must have been frustrating for Federer however were the relentless returns from Rafa, whose scrambling made for some of the best rallies and points during the marathon match.

Federer certainly had chances to win the match and his 14th grand-slam, but I think he lack! ed a killer instinct or the ability to use his emotions positively.

The player chasing the title of 'greatest of all time' was motivated to win and his tears during the presentation ceremony made that clear, but whether he can use that emotion to help him win matches, is questionable.

Nadal plays to the limit on almost every point and his motivation is clear to see in every shot.

I think Federer needs to utilise the energy that comes with nerves and emotions, and at the same time maintain his focus and calm.

This is what Rafa has been able to do and that's why he's the greatest at the moment.

View from the Pitlane with Brian Sims

If one thing has been clearly demonstrated already this season, it's that Ferrari and McLaren no longer have exclusivity on the driving talent in Formula 1. We have seen that this current crop of aspiring World Champions is perhaps one of the best for some years. Give them the right set of wheels and they will seize the opportunity to show just what they can do. It's great for Formula 1. Predictability can drive supporters away in droves, as been shown on many occasions.

Look at Button. ! Two years of trundling around at the back of the grid and his reputation looked to be in tatters. Then along came Ross Brawn!

Sebastian Vettel was surely too nice a kid to have that real mean streak that every top driver needs in order to impose himself on his rivals. Wrong! Adrian Newey to the rescue with a superbly designed new Red Bull.

Then there's another Sebastian, young Buemi (I'm still coming to terms with there being three of the Sebastian brand in F1). No-one gave him a chance when he appeared on the grid at the start of this season. An undistinguished spell in GP2 was surely not going to see him go far in the cut and thrust world of F1? Well we 'vet been proved wrong and he's up there with the best of them.

Whilst there are the stars of the show, more of them than we've been used to, there are also the flops. I doubt whether Nelson Piquet junior has been sleeping too well of late. He's go everything going for him to be a Grand Pri! x driver. A former World Champion father, good looks, huge fin! ancial r esources and a Renault F1 drive. It just goes to show, when you get to the very top flight of racing, the attributes that have seen you through the junior formulae may not be enough to hack it. I have never rated him very highly and I watched the facial expressions of his boss, Flavio Briatore, during the last race in China. They didn't show me that the boy is exactly flavour of the month at Renault and I think that we may see a change of driver in the very near future.

I worked with Giancarlo Fisichella at Benetton. Great driver, likeable person. Somehow it seems to me, however, that fatherhood has perhaps taken the edge off his driving. I hope I'm proved wrong, but the writing seems to be on the wall and I think that with so many classy GP2 drivers around, including Bruna Senna (what a pedigree he has!), Giancarlo's days may be numbered.

The furore over the diffusers is now in the past, seemingly, but on the 29th April McLaren have to face the music o! ver the Trulli overtaking affair. I don't think that I will have much trouble finding a topic for next week's blog!

It's about time they shared the money

Formula One is finally starting to make some sense in terms of really trying to help the smaller teams. The new Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) is considering this week a restructuring of how the prize money is to be divided. Instead of dividing the money where payments are weighted on a team's final constructors' championship position, they are thinking about dividing the money more equally. Currently, the higher a team finishes in the constructors' championship, the bigger share they get of the estimated $500 million (USD) revenue that is currently given to them by Formula One Management (FOM). Bernie Ecclestone, who heads the FOM proposed and supports this redistribution and it is gaining support from the teams as well.

One team principal source told autosport.com: "This would be a good way of securing the finances of all teams, without hindering those at the front. Teams that win are able to command more sponsorship money than those at the back anyway,! so there will always be benefits to winning."

I discussed this money sharing in a September post regarding budget caps in that I said if Formula One is to have an effective cap system there had to be better revenue sharing and if the sport wanted to really save independent teams as well as control costs more effectively, they would give smaller teams an equal share of the TV money to help supplement team budgets. This sort of system is in place in the National Football League (NFL) and in the NFL, everyone makes money and no one is in danger of going bankrupt ala Super Aguri did this season.

This is simply a common sense approach to the growth and sustainability of Formula One and should have been thought about years ago. There is no need for slash and burn cost cutting policies. There just needs to be better sharing the hundreds of millions of dollars that is flowing into the sport.

George Gillett 'Blames Rafael Benítez' For Liverpool's Poor Start

Liverpool's co-owner George Gillett has reportedly defended his and Tom Hicks's reign at Liverpool and pointed the finger at the manager, Rafael Benítez, after a disappointing start to the season.

Liverpool's defeat at Chelsea on Sunday was their third in the Premier League this season and followed a 2-0 reverse at Fiorentina in the Champions League. According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Gillett pointed to the investment he and Hicks have made when saying the owners were not responsible for any shortcomings.

"We have invested m! ore money than our competitors, in keeping with the history of the club," he is quoted as telling a representative of the fans' group Spirit of Shankly last week. "In the last 18 months, we have invested £128m on top of what has come in.

"That means it should be getting better. Now if it's not getting better, it's not Gillett and Hicks; it's the manager; it's the scouting. You have to make sure you balance out your analysis. There was plenty of money, so if you have any complaints, take a look at the ins and outs."

Gillett said the £30m from Xabi Alonso's sale to Real Madrid "went straight back" into Bénitez's kitty and added to funds of "£22-23m as part of our budgets".

The American also claimed that Liverpool are "in an extraordinarily good financial position. Far better than Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal."

Manchester United's Michael Owen Expecting Hostile Anfield Reception

Michael Owen has accepted that he will get a hostile reception when he returns to Liverpool as a Manchester United player this weekend but insisted that he does not believe he let down his first club by joining their fiercest rivals.

Owen is acutely aware that many supporters at Anfield cannot forgive him for switching allegiances to United, but the striker considers it unfair for him to be accused of disloyalty. To illustrate the point, he said he planned to celebrate as normal if he scored in Sunday's game.

"I! 'm human," said Owen. "I'd prefer people to sit down and recognise what you did for them and for the team in years gone past but I'm pretty realistic as well. Now that I'm playing for their local rivals – I'm not holding my breath, put it that way.

"People talk about loyalty in football, and for a football supporter it's easy to preach about that. As a father and a brother and a son there's no one more loyal than me. But when you're a player, you're not a fan. I've got to earn a living, provide for my family. I supported Everton as a kid. I never supported Real Madrid, but I played for them. It's a job opportunity, just like anyone else's work.

"The longer you're at a team, if the fans make you feel welcome and the players take to you, then you build an affinity. So now obviously I look for Real Madrid results and Newcastle results, but it doesn't make me any less loyal to Manchester United."

Owen is still hopeful that his move to Old Traffo! rd will lead to him going to the World Cup next summer and he ! pointed to his past international record as justification to be included in Fabio Capello's squad.

"I'm hopeful but the last thing I want is to be campaigning," he said. "Everyone can see how many games I've played, how many goals I've scored, how many World Cups I've been in, my record against strong opponents in big games.

"Everyone can see everything with their own eyes. There are no secrets with me – I've played 89 games, I've scored 40 goals. Everyone knows if I play I'm likely to score every other game. Playing in a World Cup wouldn't bother me. In fact, I'd raise my game, as has happened before in big games. I like big games. For some reason I find an extra certain percentage. Everyone knows these things."

Critics Have Made Me Stronger, Says Liverpool Fall Guy Lucas

Kop fall-guy Lucas claims the flak he has taken has made him stronger.

Lucas has borne the brunt of supporters' frustrations during Liverpool's rollercoaster start to the season.

The Brazilian has been given the unenviable task of trying to replace fans' favourite Xabi Alonso at the heart of midfield and has been singled out for criticism by supporters.

Lucas answered his doubters in the stands with one of his best performances in a Liverpool shirt in Sunday's massive 2-0 win over Manchester United.

He says that energetic dis! play has given him a huge boost and he thanked Rafa Benitez for sticking by him.

"I'm still young. The criticism just makes me stronger and more determined to keep working and keep focused, because those are the only things that can help me improve," he said.

"I've heard a lot of things said about me, but I don't really read the newspapers. Maybe I should when people start writing good things about me! But I'm just trying to be focused on my game.

"I feel I'm growing in confidence this season. I'm a totally different player to the one who arrived at Liverpool.

"I have confidence from Rafa. He is really important for me at the moment and he's given me my chance.

"On Sunday, it wasn't just about me showing quality, it was about the whole team showing it. I still have to improve a lot, but hopefully I can keep progressing."

Lucas' performance against United could not have been better timed with Alberto Aquilani ! finally ready to make his first-team bow.

The £20mi! llion It alian international could be on the bench for tonight's Carling Cup tie at the Emirates and is expected to take Lucas' place when he is fully fit.

Lucas, 22, is refusing to worry about Aquilani's return and is focused on beating Arsene Wenger's young Guns to keep alive Liverpool's hopes of Carling Cup glory.

"We want to be in the final of all the competitions," said the Brazil international. "We don't know what Rafa will do with his team selection. Maybe he will make changes as we have a lot of important games at the moment. But we want to progress as far as we can in the Carling Cup.

"We know it will be a difficult game as Arsenal are playing some really good football. They can pass the ball really well, they are creating a lot of chances and scoring a lot of goals.

"We want to get through and we know we have to produce another good performance like we did against United. With the confidence we have now, we can show more quality t! han maybe we were doing when we were losing games."

Liverpool have never won at the Emirates and were mauled 6-3 by Wenger's kids when they last met in the competition in the quarter-finals in 2007.

But Lucas claims beating United has given them the belief that they can defeat Arsenal.

"Sunday was a perfect day for us after four defeats in a row," he said. "We played really good football in beating a really good team. We still have to improve a lot, but this victory can give us confidence to go on to Arsenal and win through in the Carling Cup.

"We have just to keep on going now. We've shown character and quality against United and if we can play like that in all the games, then it will be really difficult to beat us."

David Ngog, who scored Liverpool's second against United, has been tipped by Ian Rush to become a star at Anfield.

Rushie feels the French Under-21 star, who has netted three times in six appear! ances this season, has the potential to be a prolific goalscor! er and w ill lead the Reds' attack against Arsenal.

Legendary marksman Rush said: "David's still rough around the edges, but the Anfield coaching staff are clearly working hard on him and he has undoubted potential.

"The experience of scoring a winning goal against United will only help his development."

Video: Jordan Crawford Dunks on Lebron James

Click the title for the video

*From eBaumnation.com
Personally, I think the dunk was way to hyped up in the first place and I'm not all that impressed. It looks like Lebron comes over to play help defense on Crawford as he's dunking.

It was nice knowing you Brad St. Louis.....

Center Brad St. Louis #48 of the Cincinnati Bengals

The days of seeing this "ass" are soon to be over with. Cincinnati Bengals long-snapper, Brad St. Louis, will more than likely be cut tomorrow after another terrible showing against the Baltimore Ravens today. How someone can go from a pretty good long-snapper to someone who hikes the ball 20 feet over the holders head is beyond me. Brad St. Louis' Wikipedia site sums up his season pretty well:

In the 2009 season, St. Louis has delivered 5 bad snaps resulting in bloc! ked or missed kicks, generating a city-wide backlash. The bad snaps came against Denver Week 1 , Pittsburgh Week 3, Cleveland Week 4 (a Field Goal and PAT were blocked), and Baltimore Week 5. In addition, a second bad snap against Baltimore was negated due to a penalty.

Best Point Guards of the Last Quarter Century

-Keefe

Who are the top point guards from the past 25 years? I never saw Bob Cousy or Oscar Robertson play, so why try to compare them to those I did see. The Top 10 separated themselves from the rest of the pack fairly easily; I also included 5 Honorable Mention selections, with two of them ready to crack the list following a couple more good seasons, especially my pick for the MVP this season, Chris Paul. If you disagree with any of my picks let me know, and let the debate begin. These are, in my eyes, the best point guards of my lifetime.

Honorable Mentions:

Chris Paul: Knocking on the door, should be on this list, and jumping over most of the names if he keeps his play at this insane level. Just too soon to put him up there right now.

Deron Williams: Only Paul is playing better than him this year at the position. But let's wait for him to make an All-Star team before putting him! in the same class as this distinguished group.

Gilbert Arenas: Certainly scores more than any other point guard on this list (career 22.9 ppg), and he definitely qualifies as a PG unlike Allen Iverson in my opinion. At 26, and with 3 All-Star games under his belt, time will tell if he can make his teammates better and achieve team success like all great floor generals.

Penny Hardaway: Without question was on his way to being on this list. Made more All-NBA 1st Teams (2) than the players I selected 7-10, but had really only 3 very good seasons. Trailed off dramatically and even Lil Penny can't help him crack the top 10.

Baron Davis: If healthy this guy would have to be on this list. The 5 years prior to this season Davis could not stay on the court. When he was on he was great. Everyone saw the performance against the Mavs last year, and that's one reason I hope the Warriors make the playoff! s again.

With the exception of Penny the other 4 po! int guar ds all have a chance to surpass the bottom portion of this Top 10. Many of these guys are still playing making it difficult to truly compare their careers. But let's get it going in reverse order.

10. Chauncey Billups:
3- time All-Star, Finals MVP (1), All-NBA 2nd Team (1), 3rd Team (1), All Defensive 2nd Team (2), NBA Titles (1).

Career Averages: 14.8 points, 5.5 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1 steal
Top 10 in MVP vote (1)

Mr. Big Shot has been a staple for the solid and consistent Detroit Pistons. Good thing the Celtics gave him a chance to play point. His defense combined with his scoring ability has him on the list for now, but Paul, Williams, and Arenas could pass him by the time its all said and done.

9. Mark Price: 4- time All-Star, All-NBA 1st Team (1), 3rd Team (3),

Career Averages: 15.2 points, 6.7 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals
Top 10 in MVP vote (4)
Best Free Throw Shooter in NBA History: 90.4%

Don't put Price on the free throw line, shot over 90% for his career. Who knows how much he would have won if he didn't have to play against Isiah's Pistons and Jordan's Bulls.

8. Kevin Johnson:
3- time All-Star, All-NBA 2nd Team (4), 3rd Team (1).

Career Averages: 17.9 points, 9.1 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals
Top 10 in MVP vote ! (2)

KJ is definitely underrated when discussing bes! t point guards of all time. A career 18-9 guy coupled with his dunk on Hakeem, he has a place on my list.

7. Tim Hardaway: 5- time All-Star, All-NBA 1st Team (1), 2nd Team (3), 3rd Team (1).

Career Averages: 17.7 points, 8.2 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals
Top 10 in MVP vote (3)

His homosexual comments brought him back into the headlines, but during his playing days his killer crossover got all the attention. Could score and set up teammates, and like Price and KJ they might have been looking up at the man guarding them, but always left them picking up their jock.

6. Jason Kidd: 9- time All-Star, Rookie of the Year, All-NBA 1st Team (5), 2nd Team (1), All-NBA Defensive 1st Team (4), 2nd Team (5), All-Rookie 1st Team.

Career Averages: 14.2 points, 9.2 assists, 6.7 rebounds, 2 steals
Top 10 in MVP vote (5)

Maybe should be higher on this list. The Top 6 are head and shoulders above the rest. A triple- double waiting to happen every time he's on the court. A championship has eluded him, he wasn't going to get it with the Nets, and now he may not even get a chance with the Mavs. Still one of the best I've ever seen.

5. Steve Nash: 6- time All-Star, MVP (2), All-NBA 1st Team (3), 3rd Team (2).

Career Averages: 14.3 points, 7.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 0.8 steals
! Top 10 in MVP vote (3)

The hardest guy to rank, is ! 5 to hig h or to low? Can't play defense, but he's the only guy on the list to win the MVP not named Magic. It's hard to say Kidd hasn't had a better career, but Nash won 2 straight (should have been 3 straight) MVP awards. I'll give him the nod here.

4. Gary Payton: 9- time All-Star, Defensive Player of the Year (1), All-NBA 1st Team (2), 2nd Team (5), 3rd Team (2), All-NBA Defensive 1st Team (9), All-Rookie 2nd Team, NBA Titles (1).

Career Averages: 16.3 points, 6.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 steals
Top 10 in MVP vote (8)

The last 3 or 4 years has hurt the Glove's legacy. People forget just how great he was in Seattle. 9 times 1st team all defense? He was defensive player of the year, in a season where he put up close to 20 points and 7.5 as! sists a night. I almost want to put him higher, but these 3 guys aren't going anywhere.

3. John Stockton: 10- time All-Star, All-Star Game MVP (1), All-NBA 1st Team (2), 2nd Team (6), 3rd Team (3), All-NBA Defensive 2nd Team (5).

Career Averages: 13.1 points, 10.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds, 2.2 steals
Top 10 in MVP vote (5)
All-Time leader in assists and steals

Everyone runs the pick-and-roll and everyone wants to run it like Stockton. Also to have more assists and steals than anyone else in the history of the NBA is just astonishing, not to mention, along with Magic, the point guards for the Dream Team. Next stop for Stockton is the Hall of Fame in Springfield.

2. Isiah Thomas: 12- time All-Star, Finals MVP (1), All-Star Game MVP (2), All-NBA 1st Team (3), 2nd Team (2), All-Rookie 1st Team, NBA Titles (2), Hall of Fame.

Career Averages: 19.2 points, 9.3 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 1.9 steals
Top 10 in MVP vote (4)

His post playing career has been, in a word; awful. But he won't be penalized for that on this countdown. Isiah was simply incredible with the ball in his hands. Plus give him credit for snatching up 2 titles sandwiched around Bird, Magic, and Jordan. Maybe if he never got involved with the CBA or the Knicks people would still be talking about him on the court and not off.

1. Magic Johnson: 12- time All-Star, MV! P (3), Finals MVP (3), All-Star Game MVP (2), All-NBA 1st Team (9), 2nd Team (1), All-Rookie 1st Team, NBA Titles (5), Hall of Fame.

Career Averages: 19.5 points, 11.2 assists, 7.2 rebounds, 1.9 steals
Top 10 in MVP vote (10, 9 top 3 finishes)

Doesn't matter if this list is the best point guards of the last 25 years or 125 years your winner is going to be Magic. 3 MVP awards, 5 NBA titles, and less than 3 rebounds shy of averaging a career triple double. He was more than just a point guard, but when he was running the show there was no one better. (Unless it was the Magic Hour). He and Isiah are both already in the Hall, and I expect many of the other names on this list to join them as well.

Funny KO

For anyone that has seen the Zab Judah dance during his fight against Kostya Tszyu, you'll enjoy this one. If you haven't, well, you'll enjoy it anyway.

He was on queer street so bad he almost fell into a split. I'm still in disbelief at the ref allowing him to try and continue. Thankfully he lived to tell about it, although I'm not sure I'd wanna tell anyone about this. Too bad it was televised.

Here's the Judah one I referenced:

And I couldn't go through this post without tossing a Tyson one at you...here's his KO of Trevor Berbick:

Which was did you enjoy the most or did you think was the best?! Personally I think I'm going with Tyson over Berbick b/c Berb! ick just kept trying to get up and flopping all over the ring, but you can make an argument for all of them.

Notts County 3 Port Vale 1

The League Two fixture between Notts County and Port Vale at Meadow Lane on Saturday Sept 26, 2009.

Amid the anticipation sweeping through the black and white half of Nottingham there appears little room for apprehension or recrimination.

The oldest professional football club in the world, long since floundering in the doldrums, is in the throes of an exciting project to drag it up by its bootlaces and back towards the pinnacle of the sport. And that, it seems, is all that counts.

Forget bitterness towards Sol Campbell. Negativity could have enveloped Meadow Lane during a fixture against Port Vale, the first since the club's marquee signing walked out on a five-year contract handed out by Qadbak Investments, the club's affluent yet mysterious owners. Their takeover is yet to be ratified by the Football League.

There was humour. "There's only one Sol Campbell," the home support sung in jest 10 minutes int! o the game, memories of the former England defensive mainstay struggling against that football powerhouse, Morecambe, no doubt still fresh.

Ian McParland, County's under-pressure manager, made no mention of Campbell's sudden departure in his programme column. There was a desire to move on, although Peter Trembling, the chief executive, provided subtle criticism of the former Arsenal man with the insistence that "ours is a five-year plan, not a five-week one." Defiance danced through his words.

One worker in the club shop revealed that numerous requests had been received for new shirts to replace those emblazoned with "Campbell". They may soon bear the name "Akinbiyi" if a certain former Leicester City forward completes a transfer to County on Monday. Qadbak's new stellar signing, no doubt.

He may not be needed. Lee Hughes, whose finishing at this level is preternatural, notched a brace of goals to take his tally to! nine. Meadow Lane was not to Campbell's taste but Hughes r! elishes this venue.

All his goals have come there. A header and a penalty, added to by a Lee Collins own goal, overcame Marc Richards' penalty for Vale. County's project trundles on.

Al Ittihad 4-0 Pakhtakor

Al Ittihad sent out a warning to their fellow Asian Champions League semi-finalists with a dominant 4-0 victory over Pakhtakor.

They go through to the next round 5-1 on aggregate.

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Tashkent, the hosts were the better side throughout this encounter as goals from Sultan Al Nemri, Amine Chermiti, Hicham Aboucherouane and captain Mohammed Noor sealed the win.

Al Ittihad will next tackle Nagoya Grampus in the last four.

From the outset the Saudi side made their intentions known and almost took the lead in the 25th minute when Aboucherouane struck a powerful effort from distance that Temur Juraev did well to palm over the crossbar.

They took the lead shortly before the break when Juraev could only punch Aboucherouane's drive into the path of Al Nemri and the forward headed home from close range.

Chermiti increased his side's lead in the 55th minute when the on-loan Hertha Berlin player latched onto a long ball from midfield and volleyed into the back of the net.

Pakhtakor's slim hopes of a fightback were ended with 20 minutes remaining when Aboucherouane headed home from a corner beyond Juraev.

Skipper Noor then added shine to the win with his side's fourth six minutes later, sweeping home when unmarked inside the area.

Cologne 1-0 Mainz

Cologne finally grabbed their first home win of the season as Milivoje Novakovic's first-half goal was enough to down Mainz.

The home captain returned to action from injury and scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season in the 42nd minute to set up the win.

The victory leaves Cologne, who had not scored in their last two Bundesliga games, in 14th place on eight points.

Mainz, who had won four of their previous six games, are six points better off in seve! nth.

Following a scrappy opening littered with free-kicks, Novakovic had Cologne's first chance after 12 minutes. The Slovenian striker was fed by Fabrice Ehret but Mainz keeper Heinz Mueller was equal to his effort.

Mainz still had troubles creating chances and Cologne grabbed the lead three minutes before the break. Lukas Podolski sent Ehret down the right side of the area and he crossed low into the box, where Novakovic fired first-time past Mueller from six yards.

Novakovic nearly doubled the lead two minutes later but saw a header from a right-wing cross saved by Mueller.

Mainz had a chance 11 minutes after the break but Elkin Soto's 30-yard effort after a free-kick went just over the bar.

Aristide Bance turned and fired narrowly wide right just after the hour mark, and the Burkina Faso native had the visitors' best chance of the game a minute into injury time when his header slipped just wide.

Hoffenheim 3-0 Nurnberg

Hoffenheim remained undefeated at home this season and ended a two-game losing run with a comfortable victory over Nurnberg.

Christian Eichner and Vedad Ibisevic scored within four minutes of each other to give Hoffenheim a two-goal lead after 38 minutes, and then Franco Zuculini made it 3-0 in the 64th minute.

The victory pushed Ralf Rangnick's Hoffenheim into the Europa League spots with 17 points for sixth place.

Nurnberg remain winless on the road this s! eason and after four losses in their last five games have just eight points in 17th place.

Nurnberg were positive in the early stages, venturing forward but failing to create many chances.

They appeared to have earned a penalty after 28 minutes as Josip Simunic felled Albert Bunjaku but the referee kept his whistle quiet.

Hoffenheim surged ahead six minutes later with an amazing goal by Eichner, who unleashed a 30-yard blast from the left of goal which found the top right corner off the underside of the crossbar.

The hosts doubled their advantage when Marvin Compper stole the ball from Marek Mintal and sent a long direct pass to Ibisevic, who played the ball around Andreas Wolf and then beat Nurnberg goalkeeper Raphael Schafer with his finish which found the far right corner.

Hoffenheim ended all doubts in the 64th minute by scoring on the counter-attack. The 19-year-old Argentinian Zuculini was the beneficiary of the clinical Hoffenheim a! ttack, placing his right-footed shot from 18 yards perfectly i! nto the bottom right corner.

The hosts had an opportunity to make it a 4-0 lead just three minutes later but Carlos Eduardo's long distance blast went just wide of goal before Rangnick called off his attackers with the match won.

Dinara Safina out of Doha

Dinara Safina has withdrawn from the Sony Ericsson Championships, leaving Serena Williams to end 2009 as the world's number one.

The 23-year-old Russian was serving at 1-1 in the opening set with Serbia's Jelena Jankovic today when she had to retire.

Safina's place at the Australian Open could now be in doubt due to the injury.

In today's opening match, Denmark's Caroline Wozniaki defeated Belarus' Victoria Azarenka 1-6 6-4 7-5.

The contest lasted two! minutes short of three hours as Wozniaki won her first match of the tournament, inflicting Azarenka's first loss after her defeat of Jankovic yesterday.

Why is Football called Football?

by Gerry Hartigan

In most parts of the world Soccer is called Football except here in the US where it is called Soccer. Now, the reason it is called Football is because for about ninety five percent of the game players used their feet to kick the ball. The only players allowed to touch the ball with their hands are the goalkeepers. So, you see it makes sense that the game is called Football in most parts of the world.

Now, let's talk about American Football. In most games only one player kicks the ball with his foot, the rest of the players either throw the ball with their hands or they catch the ball with their hands. There is very little use of the Foot in American Football. My recommendation is this. Let's change the name of American Football to Throwball and then we can call Soccer Football in the USA like the rest of the world does. Does'nt that make sense to you too? I think the world would be a happier place if order was restored and American Foo! tball became Throwball and Soccer became Football in the USA.

People would be happier and live longer and peace would be restored to the Cosmos.

2008: The Year of Cristiano Ronaldo

by Victoria Cochrane

Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Manchester United in August 2003, the £12million winger has never been far from the headlines.

Making his debut in the first game of the 2003/04 season, in a comfortable 4-0 win over Bolton, Ronaldo came off the bench to replace Nicky Butt to become the first ever Portuguese player to represent the Red Devils.

From the raw talent signed by Sir Alex Ferguson - after being passed over by the then-Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier and almost being bought by Arsene Wenger at Arsenal - Ronaldo has turned into one of the modern day greats who is among the very best in world football. This claim has been verified by the fact that in 2008 Ronaldo received the Ballon d'Or, often called the European Footballer of the Year Award; although, nowadays players from any nationality playing in any country can win the accolade. The previous year Ronaldo had come second to the Brazilian Kaka.
Ronaldo became the third Portuguese international (joining Eusebio and Luis Figo) and the fourth Manchester United player (after Denis Law, Bobby Charlton and George Best) to win the award. Rather than go by a player's performances over the course of a season, the Ballon D'or is awarded to whoever is deemed to have been best over the course of a calendar year.

Ronaldo started 2008 scoring against Aston Villa in the FA Cup before scoring his first ever hat-trick, in the 6-0 demolition of Newcastle. The winger, or floating second striker as he was often employed, scored 24 goals between New Year and the end of the 2007/08 season. His goal against the Czech Republic helped his national side reach the quarter final of the 2008 European Championships. An ankle injury delayed Ronaldo's return to club football but he managed another nine goals before the end of the calendar year, including four in four days as he scored match-winning doubles against West Ham United ! and Hull City.

Thirty players were nominated for t! he 2008 award, with 96 international journalists voting for their top five choices. Ronaldo came top with 446 points, followed by Barcelona's Lionel Messi with 281 points and Liverpool's Fernando Torres with 179 points.

Since then, however, Cristiano Ronaldo has been snubbed by his main rival. When asked to name his dream team of 2008, Messi neglected to select Ronaldo instead opting for a midfield of Javier Zanetti, Cesc Fabregas, Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Regardless, Ronaldo remains very much in focus as being one of the world's best and every transfer window brings rumours that clubs from across the continent are preparing huge bids to pry him away from Old Trafford.

Bigon: "Bagni?
